Message from the President

Dear Willett families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I’m your incoming PTA President, and fellow Willett parent with a son in 4th grade.

Join me and our fearless leader, Principal John Campbell, for the annual school year kickoff -- the Paper (less) Parade, on Monday, August 23rd, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Willett Quad and MPR. Get your student’s class assignment, connect with other classmates and families, and have a little fun. Note, that class assignments can only be given if your child is enrolled. If you have not re-enrolled online yet, go to https://parentportal.djusd.net/ and do this now.

The PTA is an integral part of the Willett community and provides significant financial support that puts books on the library shelves, pays for reading and math classroom support, pays for science materials, dance and art classes, Maker’s space supplies, balls and other equipment for the playground, and keeps teachers and classrooms equipped with tools to make learning easier for all of our children. However, we can’t do it without you. Your support in showing up to events, volunteering, and financial donations (in whatever capacity you can give) are crucial to making all these essentials possible. So, PLEASE, do us a huge favor and fill out and bring these forms to the Paper (less) Parade. We also welcome and encourage you to join us at our PTA meetings this year, whether it is to learn more about what PTA does, find volunteer opportunities or simply to connect with other parents.

To start the year off strong we are asking each family to contribute $365. If every Willett family donated $365 we would be able to almost entirely cover the $130,000 that PTA needs to pay for all the programs and supplies that state funding does not cover. That total amount may sound astronomical but we know that with your support and the generous sponsorship of local businesses, together we will achieve it. Please know that every penny of your direct donation goes to the school and your students. This year we welcome the extra support of family sponsorships for those who are able to donate a higher amount to support our school. That said, we recognize many families cannot contribute financially, so please give what you can and remember there are so many ways to help both onsite and from home. It takes all of us doing what we can.

Finally, watch your inbox for the Who’s News email and “Like” us on Facebook for periodic updates on what’s happening on campus and upcoming events. We hope to see you and your kids at the Paper (less) Parade on August 23th and at the parents-only Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 25th

We are looking forward to another wonderful year at Willett!

Sincerely,

Erika Barbara Pickles - PTA President
John Campbell - Principal
