What’s Up in the Library?
Because, for years, funding for librarians has been dependent on parcel taxes being passed, I have kept a file of things I’d like to do if I were ever forced to “retire.” Fortunately, and thanks to many of you, that never happened. However, after much deliberation right up to the last possible moment, I have decided that I would like to explore some of those activities now. I will be retiring at the end of June.
Willett is the best place I have ever worked. The staff is so supportive of the children and each other. We’re all working toward the same focused goal: doing the very best we can for each of the children. In addition, it is hard for me to find the words to adequately express my gratitude for the tremendous support that parents have given to the library, both individually as volunteers and through PTA’s generous funding. It has been my privilege to be a part of the wonderful Willett community. I will leave with many happy memories. Thank you for fourteen amazingly great years!
In other library news, intermediate students are gearing up for the Battle of the Books, which will take place in the afternoon of Thursday, May 22. Students are putting together teams of four members who can be in any fourth through sixth grade class at Willett. Sign-up forms are available in the Library. Teams looking for another member or two or students looking for a team should contact me so I can help connect them.
Each student will be responsible for reading two of the eight Battle books, which I will be introducing to the students this week. Of course, students may read more if they choose, and they may get the books from any source. Willett’s copies of the books will be released after school at 3:05 on Friday, April 4. Let the preparation begin!
