Willett Fun Run 2014!

Fun Run - Epic Fun Fair to follow!

As part of the tradition of our annual Fun Run, we always host a Fun Fair that immediately follows the run.  It's a great way for our families to celebrate their accomplishment and have a bit of fun as well.  We have some amazing events planned, including Dilly Dally the Balloon Clown, face painting and temporary tattoos, a Pogo Tournament, a Knockout Tournament, and a fitness contest.

So don't forget to register by this Friday, April 18th at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/willett-elementary-family-fun-run-tickets-10984971345!

See you at the Fun Run on Sunday, May 4th!

What's Up @ the Library?

What’s Up in the Library?

Because, for years, funding for librarians has been dependent on parcel taxes being passed, I have kept a file of things I’d like to do if I were ever forced to “retire.”  Fortunately, and thanks to many of you, that never happened.  However, after much deliberation right up to the last possible moment, I have decided that I would like to explore some of those activities now.  I will be retiring at the end of June.

Willett is the best place I have ever worked.  The staff is so supportive of the children and each other.  We’re all working toward the same focused goal: doing the very best we can for each of the children.  In addition, it is hard for me to find the words to adequately express my gratitude for the tremendous support that parents have given to the library, both individually as volunteers and through PTA’s generous funding.  It has been my privilege to be a part of the wonderful Willett community.  I will leave with many happy memories.  Thank you for fourteen amazingly great years!

In other library news, intermediate students are gearing up for the Battle of the Books, which will take place in the afternoon of Thursday, May 22.  Students are putting together teams of four members who can be in any fourth through sixth grade class at Willett.  Sign-up forms are available in the Library.  Teams looking for another member or two or students looking for a team should contact me so I can help connect them.

Each student will be responsible for reading two of the eight Battle books, which I will be introducing to the students this week.  Of course, students may read more if they choose, and they may get the books from any source.  Willett’s copies of the books will be released after school at 3:05 on Friday, April 4.  Let the preparation begin!

Welcome to the Willett Elementary School PTA Website

The Willett Elementary PTA mission is to build a community at Willett between our teachers, parents and students and raise funds for programs that enhance the Willett students' learning experience.

The Willett PTA buys nearly all the books for the school library, makes grants to every classroom and pays for numerous other needs throughout the year – from classroom supplies to updated technology in the school computer lab.

The PTA’s ongoing programs include:

  • The weekly school newsletter (Who’s News), school directory and the PTA website
  • The Garden of Learning classes for grades 1-3
  • The Kids in Motion PE program for grades 1-6
  • Bravo, Willett’s music appreciation program

The PTA also supports the Willett Chorus and funds special events (the Back-to-School Picnic, school assemblies, Battle of the Books, "An Evening of Family, Fun and Favorites" and the June Ice Cream Social).

All of these activities are made possible by the generous support from our community through donations and PTA fundraisers such as eScrip, Innisbrook gift wrap, Willett Casino Night & Auction, the Scholastic Book Fairs, Box Tops for Education and Willett Family Food Nights.

The PTA holds regular monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month that are open to ALL members of the Willett Community.
